This is my third week into my surprise preschool teaching position. First things first, I genuinely love it. There are some really hard days, but I do love it. Now back to the reality.
#1. Kids can be downright mean. They say what they think and that’s it. Kids can also be so sweet. They’ll just come up to you and hug you, even if you aren’t expecting it.
#2. Time goes so FAST. I’ve never worked at a job where time goes as fast as it does here. I’m always walking somewhere or doing something. I miss working out on a daily basis, but I’m walking at home when I can too.
#3. Time is so precious. I miss my babies so much! I took time for granted before and figured I could spend time with my kids anytime I wanted. God has a plan, I’m just following his lead.
#4. Teachers do NOT get paid enough. I spend hours each week planning, prepping, and preparing. I know there are other teachers who spend even more time than I do in the classroom. If you haven’t hugged a teacher today then now is your chance.
#5. These kids need us! I’m learning more and more each day that these kids need us. So many preschool teachers start and stop because they can’t handle the kids. Just remember that these kids are learning to trust the adults who are coming in and out of their classroom each and every day.
These are the five things I’ve learned since starting preschool this year. Of course, I’ve learned more but if I told you the other 1,000 things I’ve learned I’d have to kill you.
