Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve taught a classroom, but it was just like riding a bike. I told my husband that I surprised myself when it came down to me teaching the kids today. See– to be a good teacher you have to forget that there’s anyone else in the room with you and just let go. It also helps that this is more of a preschool setting and less of a daycare setting.
I really got to know the kids and see which ones weren’t going to listen right away (lol). I always tell people that you really get to know the naughty kids’ names first because you have to say their name so many times. No really, all the kids were pretty good it’s just a matter of everyone getting used to each other and into a new routine.
There’s so much to do here as far as having a gym and a swimming pool at our disposal, it’ll be hard to run out of things to do. I’m sitting here during nap time when I should be sleeping. The only issue was Josiah today, around noon he got a little ancy, but we just did a group music lesson and took a short rest.
Am I really teaching preschool this year? Hard to believe after four years of being home. A week ago I didn’t even think this was possible. I’m excited for the rest of the year, there are some exciting things planned.
Do you have any tips for me as a “first” year teacher? I’d love to hear them!
